About Kalamkari:
Kalamkari is a traditional art form popular in the region of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
What you see here that I’ve made is Kalamkari with a Twist.
Traditionally these are typical hand painted or block printed designs on textiles. But I have
put it on hand made paper with interpolations of designs inspired by various other art
forms, like the stylized birds and flowers you see here are inspired by the Japanese art
called Ukiyo-e.
About the artist:
Art is a gift I recieved from my mother and I’ve nurtured it through the years, trying my
hand at various forms such as glass painting, resin mosaics, embroidery, zentangle art,
etc. I didn’t receive much formal training as an artist but I attribute my style of fusion to self
experimentation and the results are rarely disappointing !
Art is therapeutic for me, the process of making an art piece is calming and I am drawn to
it.
Having travelled all over while growing up, I learnt a lot about the different handloom and
traditional art form across india and I take inspiration from them all when I sit down to
make something new.
There are so many things one can do with it and create beautiful pieces on different
medium as wall decorations, wall paintings, personalized name plates or diaries with
kalamkari covers, just to name a few !
